Magic Mountain Lodge

At first glance all you’ll notice is another stunning view of Chilean Patagonia – an emerald green mountain with trickling waterfall flowing down the outside, but on closer inspection, you’ll see that this mountain is actually a place to stay. Situated in the heart of the Patagonian rainforest in Southern Chile, the Magic Mountain Lodge seamlessly blends into its natural environment, covered in shades of jade, mustard and chocolate – lichen, moss, grass and flowers . Only the small windows belie the fact that this is something other than a natural phenomenon.

Do you believe in woodland fairies? If you don’t, then you certainly will after your visit to the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve in Chile. The forest, which is home to the Magic Mountain Lodge is said to be the place to find them, and folklore of fairies, globins, elves and dwarfs is alive and well here. This unique hotel could even be their home.

Rooms are in keeping with the quirky hotel’s nature theme – wood panelled and decorated in shades of beige and cream with natural waney-edged wooden furniture and traditional Chilean throws. Luxurious, yet cosy, the lodge is also home to a log cabin style restaurant and Hobbit-style bar, complete with inviting fireplaces.

Guests can also use the Lawenko Spa facilities located at the nearby Baobab Hotel, also within the Biological Reserve, which contains a heated swimming pool, whirlpools, dry sauna, steam therapy room and massage room.

Winner of the ‘Best Sustainable Destination’ at the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards 2012, Huilo Huilo is the perfect place to pair a luxurious holiday with a sustainable eco break.

Best suited to:
