The philosophy of Hüttenpalast is to be the ‘Agency of Everything’ and they do seem to have managed to cram a huge amount of everything unusual, under one roof. In urban Berlin, this is an unlikely refuge away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city.

This unique hotel retains Germany’s clean and minimalist style, but also creates an intimate atmosphere. The quaint retro caravans are kilometres away from the rural landscapes campers usually frequent, but their location inside an old vacuum cleaner factory ensures that a random rain soaking won’t dampen your breakfast or spirits for that matter. The red and white chequered curtains bring back memories of strawberries and cream, and the cute table and chairs outside bring out the daintiness in you.

Similar in appearance to an IKEA showroom, the wooden huts are modest, but light. You can be grateful that there will be no great gusts of winds to blow this away though.

In addition to the caravans, there are three cabins, two that look like small wendy houses or garden sheds and one alter palest or old palace, made by renovating a wooden-panelled reception room from a former furniture factory complete with stained glass window. This now accommodates four people, two inside and two on the roof, so you really can say that you are King of the erm… palace.

This quirky step-off-the-well-trodden-autobahn is keen on vegetarianism too and has a variety of locally sourced menu options and herbal teas picked from their own garden.

A break from the norm, Hüttenpalast is a well-deserved camping break with a difference, located in one of the most exciting cities in Europe.
